1997 Volvo 850 Rear Brake Pad squeel

Replaced my rear pads with Wearever Organic Disc Pads (Prt # D31) from Advanced AutoParts. Terrible squeal when brakes applied was immediate. Applied CRD Disc Brake Quiet without results. Re-applied with thicker coat, with no effect. Squeal is as load as an ambulance siren. I will reinstall old pads first chance to confirm the Pads are the culprit. Any other ideas, perhaps another brand of pads?

My personal experience is that only GENUWINE Volvo pads don't squeel on an 850. Also, use the dealer shims behind the pads. I think that's the only 850 part I wouldn't cut corners on. Granted the dealers are greedy but, in this case, I have found you have to yield to the robbers.

Car manufacturers such as Volvo go to great lengths to find a rotor/pad combination that has reasonable wear, reasonable performance and is quiet. However, the combination is different for almost every manufacturer of car and even different for some of their own makes.

What I am saying is that it is a miracle if they don't squeal. The only way you can get original equipment performance is if you use original equipment rotors and pads. If you change, you should change both the rotors and pads and use proven combinations. The only proven combination I know for a Volvo are the Volvo parts.

You might check with in Portland, Oregon. They are Volvo after-market experts.

Did as you suggested, installed the shims along with a new mounting kit and alls back to being well. For reference, Volvo part numbers 272272 and

217831 respectfully. Thanks again for the reply.
