does any volvo enthusiast here in the uk have lying in a shed or wherever parts for the old v6 ,in particular camshafts and rockers

Try asking on the Volvo Owners Club website "Wanted parts and cars" section of the "For Sale" forum. State which V6 you are interested in (B27, B28, or B280).
