99 V70 GLT Ball Joint Boots

I recently bought a 99 V70 GLT. I was at the dealer with it while my wife was having her V70 serviced. I decided to let them look it over. The came back and said my ball joint boots were dry-rotted and could be replaced for $608.

Seems to me I could replace the entire ball joint for that kind of money.

My question is can I wait until I have to replace the entire ball joint or do these boots do something incredibly special that warrants a 608 dollar repair?

thanks

Ball Joints or CV Boots ??

That seems very spendy for ball joint boots, I didn't know they were even separately available? Personally I would wait until the ball joints get loose and replace the entire parts. They might last another decade with rotted boots.

The dealer said ball joint boots. They are not separately available. The damn dealer who shall remain nameless but is the only Volvo dealer in Greensboro, NC, was trying to get me to pay for brand new ball joints just because the boots are bad. This isn't the first time they've tried to pull a fast one. I can only imagine how many unnecessary repairs Volvo owners are paying to have fixed.

It's a shame because their service department tactics have lost them any future sales from me and I'm not really sure the other 2 Volvo dealers in the Triad area are any better.
