Hi to everyone, Recently I purchased a 1978 264GL and intend to restore it, can anyone tell me what is the recommended fuel, leaded or unleaded . When it comes to Volvo cars I am a novice.

Go right to the bottom of the page and see the blue link titled "unleaded issue". The link takes you to a chart of all the engines in different models and their suitability for unleaded. You will need to make sure that the specifications for a given engine are the same worldwide.

I don't know about Australia, but in Sweden the 264 model had the so-called "PRV" engine. A V6 of either 2.7 or 2.8 litre. The design is a bit old fashioned with pushrods for the valves.

Those engines are not considered "standard Volvo class" (=lasting "forever"), as I understand. PRV was a joint venture involving Volvo and the French companies Renault and Peugeot. So basically the same engine was mounted in larger cars of those makes.
