Gonna sell my 90 740 turbo rims

Sep 15, 2003 4 Replies

I bought this 740T about 6 months ago, and mentioned here at the time that I was thinking of selling the 16 inch Turbo rims that were original to it. There was some interest at the time, but then I decided against it.

Well, now I've decided that indeed I would sell them. I just prefer the Draco's I have from my last 740, and I'm gonna use them.I just can't recall the name of these particular rims, not the Draco's, but the swept-spoke design. They're in fine shape, and I can take shots of them for anyone that wants to see them. There are 205-55/16 CooperCobras on 'em, not a lot of rubber left, but still useable. One tire has worn much of the edge off due to my buying the car with an alignment needed. I'll sell them with or without the tires, same price, whatever the buyer wants. I can't be bothered putting them on eBay, watching for who's gonna outbid whom for them, just looking for a fair price for the set. I'm in the NYC suburbs. If I've forgotten anything here, just get back to me either here or at the addy below (no hyphens in the addy).

They're called Hydra rims, nice wheels, it's a tossup to me which I like better but I think I prefer them slightly over the 15" Draco's, though my all time favorite is still the Virgo rims that came on 240 Turbos.

Yeah, Hydras, that's the name. I had seen a website some time ago that had them all listed, but just couldn't find it yesterday.

In responding to an inquiry about the rims I'm looking to sell, I came across something on a website suggesting that some rims would not work properly with my current 740's ABS. I've mounted the standard steel rims on the back with no problem, but would there be a problem with the ABS on the front end? A '90 740T, looking to use Dracos and stock steel rims that fit an '89

740 without ABS. Is the ABS just on the front end?

Almost all the cars with ABS have larger front rotors. 14" wheels won't fit over these brakes, so the steel wheels you have must be at least

15".

Also Volvo says that you shouldn't use older rims designed for cars with the solid axles on the 760s with the multilink rear, but I've seen lots of these fitted without any problems.
