Got my 240 going....NOT!

See previous post about fuel problem and solution (?)

Now I have a new problem:

I drove it Sat 30 miles or so, and Sunday I started it a couple of times, moved it once. Now the pumps won't run, as is the case if there's no ignition signal. I put my timing light on it, and there is no spark coming from the coil.

I washed it Sat. a.m. and it wouldn't start until I removed the distributor cap and dried things out a little, but then it ran for the next two days. I don't get it.

This new problem could be part of the bad wiring problem, I suppose, but previously I only had fuel delivery problems. Go figure. KennyH

Check corrosion on all fuses, "turn" them a few times in their sockets (right word?) at leat once every 3 months or so.

Re the not starting after a wash:

Earlier this year I decided to jetwash my 240 engine bay and engine. Dried off the dist cap interior and exterior afterwards - all OK. Drove a few miles distance then it stopped. On looking in the dist cap again it was wet. I am assuming that some water got into the dist lower body then as the engine heated it steamed and condensed on the dist cap interior. Dried it again and all now OK for few weeks. Worth keeping in mind.

Just replace all the fuses. The ends corrode every few years and then there's no end of intermittent electrical problems. Cleaning the copper fuse terminals is a good idea too.

Excellent advice. When pressure washing a motor (not really a good idea anyway) bring a plastic bag or roll of foil along and cover the distributor and alternator and carb/air cleaner before beginning.

If water in the dist was the problem, be sure to check for carbon tracking in the cap. from Randy & Valerie __ __ \ \ / / \ \/ / \__/olvo 1993 960
