Locksmith, am I now? Sensor put-er inner?

Well, first round of parts for the 1985 245 arrived today:

2 Tailgate shocks, 1 O2 Sensor (single wire) 1 Oil sender sensor

I started with the tailgate shocks because I had the tailgate supported with a broom while working in the back, accidentally kicked the broom and had the gate crash down on my shins. OUCH!

O2 sensor was pretty easy to install. I snipped the white heater wires and soldered the blacks.

Oil sender sensor was easy, but I needed to replace the wire and connector. I cut about 5 inches off and used a connector from an old wire harness I had. Oil light functions as needed and no more oil leak.

Then I found out today my driver door lock doesn't work because PO broke key inside. I removed the lock and tried to dig it out. I ended up putting that lock on the passenger door and using the passenger door on the driver side. Pretty simple, but you have to reverse the lever on the barrel to catch the lift. If you don't do this, the lock won't open the door.

Only bug was the automatic lock opened all the doors, until I put the panel back on and everything back together - then something slipped and no auto locks. Tomorrow I'll disassemble again.

Well, I'm pleased so far. $50 in parts for the car. I hope my Porter Cable 7424 arrives tomorrow so I can get started on detailing the car.

Why don't you take the lock with the broken key to a locksmith, and pay a few bucks to have them remove it?

Thanks, I may do that, but I am in a very small town. I think for the long run, that's a good idea.
