MAY 19 ..... FED UP WITH THE HIGH GAS PRICES

I don't usually pass these things around but I believe it would help if we all got involved on this one.

THIS IS BECOMING A REAL HARDSHIP ON EVERYONE AND FOR "NO" REASON.

THEY DON'T "HAVE" TO RAISE THE GAS PRICES LIKE THEY HAVE BUT THEY ARE

"WHY" BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING RICH. MOST OF YOU THAT ARE WORKING HAVE A PERSONAL

DAY YOU CAN USE ON THE 19TH TO HELP GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS THAT "WE

THE PEOPLE" ARE FED UP WITH THE HIGH GAS PRICES.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID

NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME,

THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT

WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS, WHICH

AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN

FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS

NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN

BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN, AND AS

QUICKLY AS YOU CAN-GET THE WORD OUT! WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP

IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE

REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE

SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE

FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS

SHIPPED, THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES

ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T

GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR

PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR

CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED

STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

It's not often I have the pleasure of saying this but...

QUIT WHINING! :)

When your petrol price is anything vaguely on the same planet as what it costs most of the rest of the world then I'll listen.

Highest UK price is presently something like $8.80 per imperial gallon.

Locally it's about $6.70.

Remind me again how much yours is?...

:)

Can you provide any facts to substantiate this rather silly partisan diatribe? Somehow, I don't think you can.....! For openers, your percentages are way off.....we get more than 60% of our oil these days from countries other than those you mentioned. The original thought behind doing this was to burn up somebody else's natural resources rather than our own. Like many other "politically correct" notions, it sounds good but doesn't work in practice.

Personally, I think we should tell the Arabs to drink the oil and refuse to buy any from them and refuse to trade with any country that does. We should deal ONLY with countries that play fair and with an even-handed approach to market economics. It's time the Arabs learned that they need us more than we need them....

you shouldn't have posted this crap either, not buying gas for one day is a meaningless gesture, you and everyone else will be buying the same amount of gas, either a day earlier or later, proving nothing

the price of your fuel has nothing to do with reality, your fuel costs so much so your government can fund it's socialist policies, you may or may not think that's a good policy, but that's irrelevant.

Right. If you really want to get their attention, don't buy anything from a gas station that you can get anywhere else. (i.e. only buy fuel.) No chips, no soft drinks, no engine oil, no windshield washer fluid, no chicken nuggets, no donuts, no beer... etc. etc.

Wasn't my point, I just said QUIT WHINING, come back when it's anywhere near as expensive as mine!

Because successive governments have decided by empirical evidence that we (the populus) are prepared to pay for fuel which includes 80% tax to why not tax it that much.

Having said that, the fuel blockades of a couple of years ago made for interesting following. Nearly brought the country to a complete standstill.

I look forward to them again, one of my cars runs on LPG. :)

Think about it - especially if you're happy with being taxed at that rate.....

Take back your country - as we here in America need to take ours back.....

Your prices are YOUR problem - do something about it! For openers, I suggest you coax Lady Thatcher out of retirement and put her back in office along with a Conservative majority.....

Our prices are OUR problem and some of us are putting forward ways and means to bring them down.....primarily we have to dismantle OPEC and let the free market rule once again....!

OPEC does not control pricing, the market does, opec does control output for a good part of the world's supply and their decisions can affect prices but they do not control prices

OPEC controls production which DIRECTLY influences, i.e., "controls" prices. IF OPEC produces more oil, making it more available, prices go down. IF OPEC produces less oil, making it less available, prices go up. Therefore, OPEC is controlling prices by controlling output - you have chosen to try to avoid that fact by stating a distinction without a difference.

We need to dismantle OPEC, along with any other group of producers who decide that they can/should/will keep prices high by controlling production.....

opec produces about half the world's oil, if the other half want to produce more, they have in the past and can in the future dictate where prices are going

hah, it's called free enterprise

The "other half" is quite happy to go along with OPEC - it's the concept that has to be dealt with.....

It's the exact opposite of free enterprise - it's "cornering" a product so that you can dictate prices.....a free market operates on supply and demand. When you control one or the other, or both, the market is no longer free.....

Umm, I'm not whining about my high fuel prices, I just drew a comparison

- I didn't start this mate!

As for political choices, it would be refreshing if for once, some Americans would quit trying to reduce *every* single usenet discussion to something to do with politics.

Have a nice day!

That's down to the non proportional voting system. Just to be clear, at the last general election, more than 50% of the population DID NOT vote for Labour.

Labour won.

Therefore the claim that so many Brits are not Labour supports would be true.

Anyway, this is a Volvo forum. :)

Well if you want to take this to a different plane, your prices are the rest of the world's problem because whereas the most of the rest of the developed world agreed that burning fossil fuels and adding to polution was a bad thing and addressed this to a point by discouraging vehicular use (debateable!), the US decides to carry on in a single minded "f*ck you" attitude and decides not to sign the Kyoto agreement.

Is it sustainable that 2% of the worlds population creates 14% of the polution?

Is it surprising that the attitudes towards the US are not necessarily in total alignment?

Why is it that the US believes that it is "always right"

Why is there any surprise in the US (because there seems to be) when the word "hate" is used against the US with whatever actions are a result?

Please note, the word US is used in the general collective and not intended to suggest that every individual thinks the same nor does the above necessarily represent my opinion or feelings. :)

An important factor in the rising prices that is overlooked is the big increase in gas consumption in China. With the chinese getting wealthy they now prefer to take the car than the bicycle..
