Brake sticking on due to partially seized caliper or similar. Get it looked at ASAP.

You didn't sat whether it was front or rear, but:

Whatever the actual cause, this is a sign of a very hazardous condition that could cause damage to parts (warped rotor, broken axle, etc.) and can easily lead to loos of control of vehicle. Do not take this lightly. if it is more than a few hundred meters oto the service center or you have to drive over about 10kph, have it towed for service or looked after at your home. IMO, this car should not be driven any further without being looked after!

I agree - anything hot or smoking around a wheel is probably the only warning you will get before something *very* bad happens. Seized brakes could cause you to lose all control and a seized wheel bearing can cause your wheel to fall off - both have been known to happen.

No kidding! On the way to work one day in the '74 Ford 4wd PU. On and off, it seemed like it was pulling a bit, but the wind was blowing across the road at about 25+mph so I didn't think about it. On the way home it was pulling again and this time I was between windrows of tall trees... Oh oh.

I was hoping to get it home, and heading along a highway at about 55 it got worse and I started to smell bad things- hot, greasy things. it suddenly began to pull hard and I knew it was over... I pulled off the highway on a side road and looked under the truck to see what was up. After I blew out the flames(!) behind the RF wheel I looked and said to myself, "I an not supposed to be able to see the brake shoes."

I wanted to back it up a bit further away from traffic. I reversed about 4" (no exaggeration) and the right front wheel/hub assembly fell OFF the truck! My head had been under there about 30 seconds earlier. I will tell you that there was never a time in my life that I needed an alcoholic beverage more badly.

As it turned out, it was a failed wheel bearing that sheared the stub axle off that drives the wheel (front differential on 4wd). I still have the end of that axle in the garage as a reminder. It looks melted like solder where it broke off, but the stuff is so hard that you can't even drill it.

A seizing, hot wheel is a sign of imminent danger. Going one step further, posting about same on the internet is leaving evidence that he had knowledge of a pre-existing, dangerous situation. Be very careful!

While we're at it we should mention the *very* bad thing is also _certain_ to happen if the cause isn't fixed. There is no benign reason for a wheel to get hot, and whatever is doing it will not fix itself. The good news is that the cause won't be hard to find and the fix will only be a fraction of the cost of the bad thing that would happen if you continue to drive it (and repair will probably cost more if you have the accident anyway).

Smoke under the hood = often bad. Smoke at a wheel = always bad.

I've had that once, although smoke came from one wheel it was the master cylinder - that's the one which usually wears and/or corrodes inside first. Don't push your luck by driving it.
