I just installed a new transmission cross member on my 1992 245. tomorrow i'm driving from Boston to Chicago. the old one was almost completely rusted thru on one side. i have checked the Bentley manual backwards and forwards but can't find any torque specs for the transmission cross member--the large bar that support the rear of the transmission. i am at wit's end. i am afraid i may be in more trouble with the new cross member without proper torque specs than with the old rusted one. does anyone have any suggestion?

Crank it down until it snaps off, then back it out a quarter turn :)
On a more serious note, it's not really critical, just tighten it until it feels tight, you don't have to go nuts. It can't really fall off anyway so long as the crossmember is bolted to the frame.
Hi Daniel,
In my 1974 Volvo Service manual there are the torque specs. for a 1974 "Centre Support - transmission case": 10-18 lb.ft. if that's of any use to you.
Andy I.
in my 1983 Volvo service manual it says: 35 Nm (3,5kpm)(25,81 lb.ft)
