Volvo trade-in value..... the legend of Volvo value

Yeah, legendary value. I'm trying to trade in a 1996 850 turbo wagon in good condition with only 76k miles. Dealer is telling that he is calling all the potential buyers and the best he can do is $5500. That's 1400 less than the edmunds trade in value and about half the kelly blue book trade in. Looks like the "value" of volvo is ONLY a legend.

Anybody wanna give me say... 7500 for it?

You are confusing trade in "value" which is at the whim of unscrupulous dealer and the resale value which is something entirely different. Screw the dealer and be patient while you sell the car yourself. You'll see.

Trade in is always a rip off, advertise and sell it privately, you'll get more that way, $7500 sounds a bit cheap for an 850T wagon, particularly with such low mileage, it's practically new.

I paid $5500 for a 94 960 with 100K. Pretty average for Los Angeles. You should do $7500 by private party.

I always sell my Volvos my self and they go for book value to the first person that answers the add in the paper. No problem. The book value for private sale is different than tradein or dealer resale. There are two sites with values, edmunds.com and kelley.com

Your vehicle is probably worth ~8-9k.

Dealer wants to give you 5.5K....and probably would come up to ~$6k if pushed.

Dealer will inspect the car, replace anything likely to break in the next

3000miles and then detail it/ figure ~$500-$1000 for this. Dealer would have ~$7k in the car.

Dealer will put a $9500 price on the car and probably sell for ~$8,500.

If I were you, I would sell it privately with an asking price of $9k

Best,

Ross
