Volvo V70XC vs. V70SE ?

I am looking to buy a 2000 Volvo V70 XC. Is this the better model than the V70 SE? Which is the more desireable, or the more expensive model? Can anyone shed some light on what I should look for when test driving.

thanks marty

Depends what you want Marty. Do you want a refined road car, or something a bit more clunky with a bit of off-road ability.

I'm on my second T5 SE, having traded in my 02 model for a new one last month. The SE has all the bells and whistles, and a great deal of refinement, and is a very, very capable load lugger - I moved house last year, using only my Volvo!

Downside to the SE (particularly the T5) is that it's crap in snow, for which the AWD of the XC may be more suited, but then again, how many days of snow do we have in the UK per year?

If you're going off road from time to time, perhaps you may be better with the XC, but I find my SE perfect for everyday motoring.

No major vices on either model as far as I'm aware. Certainly on the SE, wheel bearings are prone to failure out of the warranty period, but pattern parts are relatively inexpensive. Cam belts should be renewed at around the 80K mile mark. There is one problem I'm aware with on the DSTC, a steering angle sensor (expensive) is prone to failure. On diesel models, injectors have been known to fail at around the 50K mile mark. Apart from these points, V70's of all derivatives are solid, reliable cars, and you'll get good use whatever you pick.

Hope this helps

Nick
