Hi,
I have a good 1990 Jetta body (with a bad engine) and a 1992 engine with standard tranny. Can I put a 1982 drive train in a 1990 body?
I'm sorry. I got that all wrong.

typos...
I will conclude that these are both standard gas Jettas, both with manual transmissions; The A2 trans will be different due to it's mounting bracket, the 82's trans will lack the bolt holes for that bracket.
Engine is possible, but I would wonder about the Right Side mounting holes and any holes for the Power Steering Pump Brackets. FI systems are different and of course engines are slightly different too.
Most people will try to "improve" by updating the engine to something more powerful, but to each their own! :-)

I'm sorry. No, not gas engines. They are both diesel engines. The 82 is a turbo-diesel. It works well but the body is shot.
The 90 has a good body, but the engine is cooked. Can I lift the 82 turbo-diesel engine and tranny (stdrd) complete and drop it into the '82?

I meant, can I lift the 82 engine and tranny and drop it into the '90 body?
