98 TDI glow plug control/wiring

OK, drove to cold climes yesterday, went out to car today, glow plugs = didn't operate. No MIL, indicator light did it's usual 1 second cycle = and no start. Glow plugs test OK. Looked up the wiring in in Bentley and online. The = wires that should be going to relay position 12 are non-existent and = there is no relay in position 12 as stated. Hmm. Nearest I can find to = match by wiring of what should control the glowplugs is a relay in the = center of the topmost row of relays below a 50A Maxifuse. The relay is = marked 180. Any ideas? TIA

The two wiring diagrams I have are both different than the car; I = managed to find my interface to use VAG COM on the thing (I'm 360 mi = from home, no dealer within that distance.) Turns out that the CTS is bad; Indicates at least 135C, so no glow., = thanks for putting in a flag to trip the MIL if it runs that hot for too = long.

From memory the glow plugs don't come on until the temps are below 50*F
