lately my 2002 Golf Gti started to make the same noise like the blinker in rapid sequence --this happens by and then -- the blinker is off when this occures. The blinker lights are not engaging. Anybody got a clue?

Um, bulb burnt out? Look see if they're lighting up. If not, well, there's your answer. Can't recall if a Golf does it but plenty of other cars help you discover a light's burned out by flashing a faster cycle.
There was a recall on many late model VWs for turn signal issues. Have your dealer see if your car is affected.
