cabrio vs. golf window regulator?

Mar 15, 2006 4 Replies

i was wondering if anyone knew the difference between the window regulator for a 97 cabrio and a 97 golf? i can get a golf regulator (w/out motor) for $50. i can't find one for a cabrio for less than $320 or so.

no wrecker in the area, even those specializing in bmw's and vw's, has one for a cabrio.

i have it all apart and all i really need is new cables. a couple of searches has shown me that those can't be had by themselves.

the picture of the golf regulator looks very close to the cabrio. i'm wondering if i could get the golf's regulator and take the cables out to use on the cabrio? or will the length's be too different?

i'm about ready to try a homemade setup.... what a crock.

well, i couldn't wait- i just bought a golf regulator on ebay. i'll try and remember to post back when i get it and try it out. $45 plus shipping. it has the same part number as timmonsvw lists for the 97 cabrio w/out motor. (costs $114 on their website)

guess nobody reads this group.....

anyway, the golf regulator worked fine on the cabrio in case anybody is interested.

That's an odd conclusion.

Glad you were successful. Your comment will probably help somebody in the future. I suspect the change out would be easier on the cabrio than the Golf. I suspect there is not a full frame around the window.

That, or no one knew for sure and didn't want to steer you wrong.

Did you put the year in the body of the first message? If you put it in the subject any readers that might know would be more likely to read it.
