Window Regulator Litigation

Hey all. I have two VW new beetles. My daughters 99, that I've paid to have window motors replaced to the tune of $300; and my wife has 2001, that hasn't had the problem yet.

Today I get a notice in the mail that there is a VW Window Regulator Litigation class action lawsuit regarding this.. and there is a proposed settlement.. VW will give me back money for money spent and a 7 year extended warranty.

Anyone know any more about this?

Sorry.. if this is old news, I just joined this group and looked breifly for a thread on this.

Thanks in advance

Problem.... plastic clips are used in the regulator. These plastic clips are fitted on a vertical track (2 tracks), and each plastic clip has 2 cables hooked into them. There is a metal clamp that clamps the glass, and said clamp has a tab that fits into the plastic clip. Now then, the plastic clip breaks so that the cables can be pulled free or break so the metal clamp is no longer being held onto.

Solution.... metal clip/clamp units, 1 piece (with a plastic inserts where they touch the track). Can't crack and allow the cable to pull out. Free replacement for the next 7-ish years for all A4 platform VWs. Both windows are being updated, even before there is a failure. Call up your dealer for details. Both of your VWs would be covered for the free update. Starting in 2003, metal clips came OE.

Now then, you state you had a power window motor replaced. That isn't part of the campain, and they rarely fail. I've replaced maybe 2 in the last 3 years. More common for them to fail in the A3 platform, and even then it isn't something I see often.

Conventional Wisdom was that VW had fixed this problem for the 2003s, but my dealer just told me that they (pro-actively) replaced the clips on mine because they were the old nylon ones. True?

Is that an A3?

Had, hmm... 2, 2, 1 and needing another, 1 or 2, so about 6 or 7 regulators for my '95.

There was a TSB from VW on the A3s that stated motor failures are very uncommon (at the time) and usually it was a wiring harness problem.

I can vouch for wiring harness problems! @$%!@#$ things keep breaking and making a mess of the alarm system!
