If this is a very recent deal you can inspect the cable, and make sure that it has a little slack in it. Often the wear of the clutch causes a tight clutch cable long before the friction material is gone.

However, if this has been going on for a while then you've probably glazed the friction plate, and a readjustment of the cable won't do much good.

Take heart, that clutch replacement is only a 4-hour job, and can be done by an experienced shade tree mechanic. You'll need an alignment tool, a couple of bottle jacks, maybe a milk crate, and the usual assort ment of tools (including a 16-point hex tool for the CV bolts). I've done a few of these, and if I've got good parts I can get it done in 3 1/2 hours.

the last owner had a self adjusting clutch cable put in, i dont know if this was a bad idea or not. it slips when i put the pedal down closer to the floor in the higher rpms.

i just went out to start my car and i put it in reverse and i get nothing at all but a little movement, te clutch cable feels really tight and i can put it in gear and hold the break, i let out the clutch an i dont move, but the car doesnt shut down.

what freakin gives, the clutch was slipping a little bit today and yesterday and i let it sit for a while and this is what i get. geez
