Does any own know the cold start sequence for 1997 (VW) 1.9 Diesel engine from a Seat Toledo SE.
- Engine No: 1Y0698861
- Spares No: R000570
- The same engine is also used by VW cars but I'm not sure which.
From cold:
- Trickle current when driver's door is opened and closed (glow plugs).
- Full current for a few seconds once ignition is turned on (glow plugs).
- Then no current.
- Full current returns for appox. 3 mins once engine starts. Until engine warms up.(glow plugs?)
Warm start: As above but full power remains for less than 3 mins depending on how recently the car was used. I am trying to work out if the large amount of current taken during the latter heating period (approx 3 mins) is "normal" or the battery ( which was old anyway) broke through normal ware and tear. (I am assuming this 3 mins heating is for the glow plugs ? it seems an awfully long time.)
I had a flat battery and a burnt out fuse. I have been told by a car mechanic that current should only heat the glow plugs for a few seconds rather than a few minutes and the reason why the battery is flat is because the glow plugs are heated for too long.
Also if any one knows where I can get a wiring diagram for this car too. (Haynes don't do a manual for this model)
Or if you know of any other cars that this engine is also used on it would be a help ? I could have a look in the Haynes manual for that car.
Thanks
