Ensure emissions test pass

How likely do you think it is that a vw with 300,000+ km will pass an emissions test? if It doesn't then I think I have to spend $400 on emissions stuff before they'll pass it conditionally... would that be about the price of a new cat converter?

What would you change to prepare the car for an emissions test? oxygen sensor is one item, what else?

A friends 87 Jetta just passed AirCare in BC with flying colours....350000 km on the clock. Go for a drive beforehand too, get the engine/exhaust nice and hot.

If the car runs wells the there is no reason why it shouldn't pass. I have heard of adding about 3 bottles of dry gas(aka alcohol) to make the emissions cleaner.
