GOLF TDI loss of power

May 14, 2004 4 Replies

I have an '01 GOLF TDI with 166,000kms, mostly highway (really!). Recently I have been experiencing a tremendous loss of power that only occurs intermitantly. For example, taking almost 1 km to get my speed up to 100km/h., or, not being able to go faster than 120km/h on a flat highway. Then the next day, everything is fine.

My dealership told me that my mass airflow sensor needs replacing ($542CDN for the part), yikes! I will get it fixed sometime soon but not able to do it this month. Anyone experienced this before? I love my TDI and plan on holding onto it for many years but I don't want to replace this part every 3 years. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check with your local dealer because VW issued an extended warranty on the MAF problem. This should be changed out for you free of charge.

had brake booster replaced under "bumper-bumper" warranty last week. complained to dealer for the 4th time about poor perf and loss of mileage for the fourth time. service writer said he couldn't find anything wrong, told him that was the first thing he ever told me that i really believed. going out of warr @ end of month. pulled maf plug, drove until cel came on, HE FOUND IT!. runs great. 2000 nb tdi.
