Is there a recall on the window motors?

Some one told me that there was a recall on the 2001 jetta window motor that is used to raise and lower the windows in that it get stuck in a down position. The motor is apparently plastic.

I have 98 Passat and the driver side window is stuck in a closed position. Can these be related and is there a recall for passats as well?

I believe it was not on the motor, but on a gear that was plastic and prone to breaking. I don't know if it was a recall, per se, or just an extention on the warranty for that part. I have a 2001 Jetta that ended up with the window stuck down and VW fixed that and the others at the same time. I don't remember if the Passats around that time used the same parts.

My 96 GLX 4 dr Jetta has suffered the same fate. Mine died while traveling cross country, and I had to manually pull the window back up after disassembling the door. It was cheaper to buy the entire window framework and motor than just the motor by itself. It worked intermittently, and then gave up the ghost. Same for the other side too.

No recalls on your 98 Passat, but before you think the motor you should check the switches and wiring. I haven't replaced many yet. Maybe 2 since
