Jetta window recall info...

Hello,

My 2001 VR6 Jetta driver-side window fell inside my drivers side door toniight. I need some info to help correct the issue:

- What exactly causes this?

- Did VW of America issue a recall on the window issue? please post a valid and official looking link, if they did. If not a recall, what did VW do to acknowledge/correct the issue?

- Any ammunition/info I can use whilst approaching the dealer to fix my window would be appreciated.

Call your dealer, that's all you need to do. Here in the USA the fix is FREE for 7 years/70,000miles.

I've had the same issue with my 2000 Jetta. There are two possible causes, I've seen both. First, there are two clips that hold the weight of the window on the steel drive cable. Both of these clips are plastic and are prone to breaking easily, causing the window to fall into the door. The second cause that I've seen is the steel cable gets caught around the hub/gear of the motor and binds-up causing the motor to rip one of the clips off the window (producing some loud cruching sound when trying to open/close the window). Eventually, the window just falls into the door.

In either case, my dealer was aware of the problem, apparently it's pretty common. My dealer in MA offered to fix it for free (if I wanted to wait 3 weeks...in the winter). I opted to get the replacement parts and do it myself. By the way, the replacement parts are not plastic. I'm not sure if there was a recall, I think they might have had one of those service bulletins on the subject.
