Is it just small and nice? Did you drive one or just saw a lot of them?
I drove a Fiat Panda, which was... adequate. Better than I expected a Fiat to be, actually. Nimble. Got great mileage.
But I saw Polos EVERYWHERE. They're easily as popular there as Jetta-4's (mine) are around where I live (N. Va.). Around here, they seem like every 20th car.
Nice looking inside and out. Sexy round headlights. Fit & Finish looked as good as my Jetta. Engine types seemed reasonable . I think 1.6 was popular, which is what my Fox had and I loved that.
I don't know what VWOA's deal is, putting a 5-cyl 2.5 guzzler in their "economy" car in the US, in the face of things like the Aveo and the Yaris.
I'm going to hang on to my 2000 Jetta for at least a couple more years and see if VWOA introduces a reasonable economy car in this country, but if not, Hello Japan! (Or Audi A3 if I can afford it, but that's my penis car, so thats different. 8^) )

I wanted an Audi when I bought my 2003 Jetta wagon. The Audi did not come with the proper engine and I could not justify the extra thousand of dollars. My Jetta was made in Germany anyway so I doubt that quality would have been any better.
The problem isn't that the Rabbit has a large engine. It's that VW doesn't have an economy car here. The Rabbit is a fairly inexpensive but premium small car. It is not in the Yaris/Aveo class and shouldn't be compared to them. VW just has nothing in the Yaris/Aveo class, period.
Nothing in the US, anyway. They should.

Yup that's what I meant to say. It's out there...it's just "over there".
