Looks like my 1988 VW Golf needs a new computer, and my mechanic is having trouble locating a used one so I'm trying the internet. If anybody has any clue where to find one, please let me know. Here's the info he gave me:

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that you need one? What is the vehicle doing?
I have changed one Digifant II ECU over the years, but I usually find them pretty sturdy. Ground wires, or other wire/switches are the usual problems. I might have one or two Digifant II ECUs but would need numbers off of yours to make sure that they match.

I have seen 3 digifarts with bad ECUs due to improper grounds. In each case, the fuel injectors opened and remained opened as long as the key was in the accessory or on position. Fix the ground, replace the ECU and voila.
That said, I have one in my trunk, I think it's an M or CS but like Dave says, give us a part number or at least the one or two letter suffix.

Thank you all for the responses. The reason I posted asking about a new computer is because my car has been dying on me on an intermittent basis (usually after one-half to one hour of driving), and the shop says they've narrowed it down to the computer. I asked about checking for ground problems and they said that's the first thing they check. The ignition module and fuel pump have already been weeded out. I've found an ECU, thanks for the offers. I hope this will do it as this has been going on for awhile and it's driving me crazy.

UH there are TWO fuel pumps!!!
I would have suspected the transfer pump or it's fuel connection or strainer, or fuel filter or relay. Fuel not getting there. Or something with the ignition, hall sensor, ign. module or something that is getting hot and failing.
