MIL Question

Nov 22, 2004 3 Replies

Hello, I'm hoping someone here could help me out. I recently bought a 2000 Jetta GLS VR6 that I am very much enjoying. When I purchased this car, it came with no owner's manual. I've just bought one off of eBay but it has yet to arrive. As I was driving in to work this morning one of the MIL's came on. The MIL in question is a circle with three squares on each side. I have searched the web but can't find any clue as to what this particular MIL represents. Can someone check in their user's manual for me and let me know. I am very worried as I have a long drive home and don't know how serious this problem is. My sincerest thanks.

I'm not visualizing the icon you describe, but the severity of the fault can usually be determined by the color of the light. If it's red, it's probably not a good idea to drive too far if at all. If it's amber, you are probably OK for a few miles at least. Of course, knowing what it means would be best of all.

May be brake pad warning light. If so the front brake pads should be checked.

That's what I'm thinking...brake pad wear warning light. Does it look like this except that the lines in each side are broken up? (O)

If that's it, and it's yellow (not red), it's the brake pad wear warning. You're not in any grave danger right now, but probably in 1-2K miles you need the brake pads replaced.
