Anybody, On my (actually wifeys) 5 speed 95 Passat 2.0 cable shifter with 180K shifting is getting weird. I'm a reasonable competent mechanic of old. Poor/shody er I mean I used to be Porsche /Audi for 10 years. I've maintained my own VW's since 82. Anyway this one has me stumped. It will shift fine 99% of the time but then you'll come to an intersectiion (usually busy) and it won't downshift then sometimes it won't go back into the gear it was in. I've tried double clutching and nothing really seems to help. Friction point seems fine - I don't think it is the clutch. The trans has plenty of redline fluid in it. It is usually downshifts that are weird but once in a great while it won't do nuttin till you coast through the intersection smiling at everyone that thinks your an idiot. Is this what happens before they go south? Any thoughts ?
