Thanks Woodchuck, Pencilneck...& the rest

Hey everyone, especially Woodchuck & Pencilneck,

After the most recent failure of my 2001 Jetta (Ignition coil pack, spark plugs, spark plug wiring, all O2 sensors, and more -- $1,400), I decided that enough was enough for now.

Sold the baby (I will miss it -- great car, when it worked) on Saturday, and picked up an 04 Maxima same day.

Thanks for all of the help over the years to diagnose what went wrong with the VW.

VWoA -- get your act together.

Yes, please do.=20 As a sidebar, after years of POS American cars, my family started to = switch to Japanese cars and the first round went fine, they raved about = how wonderful they were and that in 50K miles all they had to do was = oil, brakes and tires, no returns for warranty problems. Now they are on = their second round of Subarus and Nissans and Toyotas and they are all = having the same kinds of issues they had with domestics; Electrical = failures and driveability but the general build quality seems to be OK. =

Cars have gotten too complex to be as trouble free as they once were. This seems to be an across the board issue. Some are worse than others, but none are perfect these days. Wow...I feel old talking about the good old days like that!

:) Oh, every car has problems, that's for sure. Just this one doesn't have the same tranny whine, or the window recall, or the ignition coil pack problem, or the brake lock switch issue.

What the Maxima doesn't have, is a decent cupholder or moderately accessable cigarette outlet. VW has 'em beat there.

I will follow up, don't worry. I will continue to read this group, as my VW was a fun car to drive, and I have an interest in the Audi / VW brand. Won't be buying or leasing any of their cars for the next 3-5 years (at least), but I'm keeping my eye on them.

I don't even have a cigarette ligher in my golf, I think it was optional :-)... I have a flip out cover that says 12VDC on it. The cupholders are good (I don't know how people break them, people can break everything... they are pretty damn solid tho)

have the same tranny whine, or the window recall, or the ignition coil pack problem, or the brake lock switch issue.

Germans don't have the culture, QA and testing practices in place to achieve the Japanese level of reliabity. Don't hold your breath.

How deep up your ass did you have to reach to pull out this gem?
