Doesn't have a clutch switch... so better find someone better. It could be a starter, battery, ignition switch or a wiring issue.

I had the similiar problem with my Golf that required me every time to start the engine to pull down on the passive restraint strap so the switch would work by making contact.. Sometimes it seemed like it would not work and I though I was stuck somewhere - this went on for a few days or so as I was too busy to fix it and drove my newer car. I finally removed the switch cover and soldered the two wires together.
Just went through inspection. emissions were flying colors with a new cheapo Maremont catalytic converter that has the header downpipe welded to it. 97 bucks. Oddly, the inspection MVs removed the strap and actually would not have be able to start the car had it been in the stock state when they took over the driver spot.
You did great getting it for a big discount, congratulations.
