Re: Getting screwed by dealer?

Heh...long story short: I rebuilt my tranny and painted it Chevy orange. Ran one ground to the upper tranny mount ('89 Jetta) and forgot the one to the block. Start the car and poof shortly thereafter, my ECU is fried (put the key in accessory position and the fuel rail opens wide, filling each of the cylinders right to the top). Painted surfaces are not good grounds.

Take it to the dealer and he takes an ECU out of another car in for service. Blows that one. And another one. Lol...

STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE DEALERSHIPS!

;)

Or at least stay out when I'm there. It was a simple mistake that only cost me $150 to fix (I have a source for used ECUs). Too bad for the dealer.

Blanket statements are just stupid. I've had very good luck having my VW serviced at the dealer. The last time I checked around and the dealer was actually less expensive than quotes I received from independents. The work is warranted and they give me a loaner. Not all dealers provide good service. Not all independents provide good service. There's another VW dealer in town with a lousy reputation, but mine has provided excellent service at a reasonable price.

Same here and it works the other way as well. We have a Meineke in my town that has been run by the same family for years and they are honest, hard working people that do a great job.

Now the XYZ Tire Center in the same town........Yikes!!!!! I saw those bozos drop the wheels from a Porsche that was 6 feet in the air on a lift. Also had a friend who had the oil filter fall off after he went there for an oil change. That turned into a real mess.

It all depends! psycho
