Does anyone know how the in dash cupholder on a 99 (new) jetta GLS is replaced? I'm trying to figure out if it snaps in somehow or if I have to take the dash apart. It seems the broken cup holder is a frequent problem so I'm hoping someone has replaced it and can advise. We're getting ready to sell this piece of junk so I'd like to have it working :)

To remove the cupholder, there are 2 metal tabs on the left and right hand sides of the cupholder cartridge. To removev it, simply pull the tabs in towards the centre of the cup holder and pull the unit out. If you are smart, you will upgrade to the 2002+ style "soft deploy" cupholder. You will need to change the cupholder door howver, but it is like a $10 part...
