Hi
I've just noticed today that when I am in reverse (4 speed automatic, 1999.5 Golf TDI) and my foot is on the brake the car shakes quite a bit, and the noise from the engine get very low pitched... no change in idle speed other then the usual slight drop. When you let the brake off the idle speed caries the car and the engine/tranny smooths right out.
The only things different about today from any other day is that I have been driving in and throught very heavy/deep snow... And when I was out for the first time this morning I stopped the car, pulled the handbrake and took my foot off the gas with the car in Drive... I never do this, guess it was "one of those days" the car of course was firmly stopped so nothing happened, and I slid the selector into park... without my foot on the brake.
Do you think me shifting into park (going over Reverse in the process) from Drive with no foot on the brake and now having Reverse vibrate like crazy could be related?
I'm wondering why the lock solenoid allowed me to shift the gears? Reverse has always shaken a bit more then Drive and definately more then Park/Neutral, but this is a lot worse then I have ever noticed - transmission fluid was changed at 95K kms, car has 114K Kms on it now, transmission up till today was perfect.
