I've got a loose door-hinge screw on my '01 Jetta. The screw has what appears to be a Torx head, but it's 12 points instead of 6. I understand this is called a "triple-square" head, and it appears that it's 8mm in size, but I'll be doggoned if I can find a tool to fit it around here. The dealer was of no use. Anyone have a source for one of these drivers?

If there is a "Pep Boys" store near you, they have them, but you'll have to buy a set... around $13.00.
MAC Tools, Snap-On Tools, MATCO Tools. If you can find a number for one of your local distributors, they'll deliver it to your front door. Otherwise, try their website.
I've even seen them lately at Autozone. Picked one up there for the head bolts.

yup... i pd $25-35 from snap on for one cause sears says the tool doesnt exist... but you can buy the whole set at autozone for about $12
That reminds me, when I was looking for one for my headbolts, the little short foreign guy at the local Sears here said that VW had a grand plot to woo people that worked on there own cars to go to the dealer and buy high-priced tools from them so they can mark down the bolts and other hardware to make the job look cheap at first glance. You are then forced to buy the tools if you have already started the job or bring it to the dealer to have it fixed.
He then tried to interest me into a bolt remover set.
Crazy talk. It's just (either or both) like Compaq Computers used Torx fasteners to keep unauthorized people out of the systems, VW and other manufacturers use different fasteners also. Or the different style meets some need like better torque before driver strips fastener head.
