Water Pump question

Sep 13, 2003 2 Replies

I have a 1984 Jetta GL turbo diesel and I need to buy a new water pump and was wondering if there is an easy way to find out whether your existing pump is an 8 hole mount or a 9 hole mount? I mean, if I could feel around the pump, I could count them, but without taking the pump off, I can't access most of the bolts to find out how many. Do the pumps look different? Different manufacturers? Anyway, thanks for any help you can give me.

when replying, if you woudln't mind replying to my email as well as the newsgroup, because I'm not sure what access I'll have to usenet over the next few days. Thanks.

AFAIK I believe that you will have the 9 hole mount, but the 9'er pump should fit on the 8 hole housing. So no worries! :-) There will be two options for the hub (where the pulley mounts to)though, and you should take the smaller hub. Brands make a difference too! What options do you have? later, dave

Replace the whole thing as a unit, get the real stuff and...
