Where is air filter on 2002 Jetta 2.0?

Can anyone explain where the air filter is or send a picture? And if you have an explanation of the steps to proceed I'd sure appreciate. I know this is not very exciting or interesting but you'd sure help me. snipped-for-privacy@grossmont.k.ca.us

The air filter is located in a box right behind the battery (towards the windshield, on the driver's side (North America).

You will want to remove the wire connection to the MAF sensor to remove the top of the air filter "box" to get at the air filter. As I recall, there are a couple of screws (not sure if they are torx or phillips?) to remove the top cover of the box. After you remove the box, you will be able to see the air filter inside.

Despite being around for 3.5 years, (maybe 4.5 in the beetle/passat) I haven't found wide availability of the air filters (at least not in Walmart/KMart stores...think they are 8630 or something...I had to order a couple mail order...I replaced mine when I put a new MAF sensor in (thinking that it might help extend the life of the next sensor) -- --------- Tom Flynn '78 Scirocco (sold 1988) '86 GTI 8v (sold 2000) '00 Golf 8v 2.0 I speak only for myself
