question about XJ-8 power seats

I recently brought a 1998 XJ-8. The one quirky thing i find with odd with it is that once i turn off the key, the seat goes all the way back. After i get back into the car and push my seat preference button, the seat, steering wheel and mirrors will adjust to the memory preference but i have to use the seat control lever to re-distance the seat to where i want it. My question is, is that normal? Or is the seat also supposed to go back into the same spot where i i had programed it?

And if that feature seems to be malfunctioning, will it e expensive to reprogram the computer to correct the problem.

Thanks for any response to these question.

It's not normal. On exit, the seat goes back and the wheel goes up to assist getting out of the vehicle. The seat, mirrors and steering wheel should all return to your preferred positions once you hit the memory button, or even when you put the key in the ignition. Get it checked.

Actually, the whole thing should be activated correctly when you hit the key fob remote unlock, you should not need to use the memory switch unless you use setting number three. The car (at least my '99 Vanden Plas) comes with a "his and hers" unlock function for programming to two key fobs - one automatically activates memory setting one and the other activates memory setting two. Everything - mirrors, seats, steering wheel, should automatically adjust to the memory presets.
