Lift kit DONE

Thanks Bill and Cherokee LTD, and everyone else for the help. I was able to get the kit installed. It took 15 hours split between two days. As far as I'm concerned, not bad for one guy alone w/o experiance.

Several of the parts I got from Skyjacker either didn't fit or required modification to fit - dissapointing. The thing that stood out the most? The new rear u-bolts were too wide to fit through the holes of the spring retainer. Luckily, the old stock ones fit.

Also, SkyJacker sent me a kit to convert the upper front shock mount from the stud type to the eye type.. yet they sent me the eye type shocks.

Total, I gained just under 3" in the rear (I expect it to sag to 2" in a few months) and just about 2" in the front. The ride is definately crisper, but not bad by any means.

The rear springs had three clamps around the leafs to prevent lateral shifting of the leaves. I had to remove all three clamps on each pack to install the AAL. They are re-wrapped for now, but I'd like to replace them. I would think someone would make a U shaped clamp with a bolt that passes through the open end to complete the wrap around the spring. Anyone know where I can get one of these, or should I just make my own?

Thanks,

Carl

Congrats on your install. I know how frustrating it can be doing things solo, having done it to my 88 XJ some years ago. (Sold it since then). As for the leaf clamps, I picked up square "u-bolts" in the trailer section of Canadian Tire that worked really well for that. Not knowing if you're in Canada or not, it's all I can offer, but I imagine any place local to you that sells utility style trailer parts should have them. I used 4 (2 per spring pack) and the cost was around $2 each. Not unlike these...

Having said that, when using them, add a piece of metal stock a little longer than the u-bolt is wide, drill a hole in either end for the u-bolt to attach through, thus "wrapping" the spring pack....
