I think i'm going to put a little 2 inch lift on my XJ. I see the econo kit sold a couple of ways. One way uses spacers up front and add a leaf in the rear and the other uses 2inch blocks under the rear spring. Whats the best way to go with these econo kits?

The blocks keep the stock suspension stock. The add a leafs are usually very hard.

Yup, what Mike said. AALs, especially the short ones in the cheapo kits, can actually crack your stock leafs.
The disadvantage with blocks is that they expose you to spring wrap problems. Not sure if this is a serious concern at 2" though.
If you get blocks, be sure they are steel and not aluminum. If you go with AALs, get the longer ones.
If you plan to keep your lift indefinitely and ride quality is important to you, you may save in the long run by investing in an Old Man Emu lift:
