Chassis number on spring hanger

Mornin all

I know this has been discussed to death in the past, bear with me

A friend in Spain has a series IIA with a replaced front spring hanger, and hence no chassis number stamped on it. Apparently the bulkhead plate isn't enough over there, so he wants to stamp the number back onto the hanger

Does anyone have a photo or drawing of exactly where it should go, and what it looks like. We know the number, and it's not a replacement chassis, so nothing dodgy going on :-)

Also, any idea where in the UK we can buy suitable stamps of the right size and font?

Many thanks

My chassis numbers are stamped on the rear spring hanger on the IIA chassis I have. Its just above the spring bush hole, usually a wire brush gets them visible. Not sure if that was just an Australian thing though.

My 2a has the chassis number on the LH rear hanger, not the front one - I think they only went to that on the 90/110. May be different in Spain of course. JD

Font? Gosh, that would be posh. Just get some plain stamps. Screwfix[1] will sell you some which will do for a tenner if your local motor factor won't. Stamp the number on the top of the spring hanger. I seem to remember mine ran down the vehicle, so they were correctly read from the passenger side.

In theory you're meant to have someone out from the local licensing office to observe you re-stamping the chassis, but I was told by a nice lady at my local office to just get on with it as no one would ever know (or care).

Nah, my 1976 SIII had it on the front (NS I think, not sure now) spring hanger.

says front rh Any more? ;-)

What I'd love more than anything is a photo, maybe from a Haynes manual or something

BTW the landy is of UK origin, only taken to Spain a few years ago

;-)

These are 4mm stamps which sound too small to me - does anyone know roughly how big the chassis numbers are?

On top? I thought it was on the side

Sorry if I'm sounding picky, we're just worried that the Spanish authorities will realise it has been re-stamped

Have emailed you. I used a ruler in my pics to give you an idea of the height. If you want any more pics then email me back.

You star, Tom, exactly what we needed! All sorted now

Nope, those are perfect

I see why you replaced the hanger, though ;-)

Cheers, and thanks again
