Range Rover Starting Problems

I have a starting problem with my '94 RR LSE.

When I start the car, it struggles to turn the engine over initially and then speeds up to a normal starting speed. I initially thought that it was the battery and put a new battery on but it still does the same. Any ideas on what the problem is and what I will need to do to rectify the problem?

Also (out of interest) - I have recently put a new top tailgate on the car. During the process I cut the wires for the central locking actuator and reconnected them making sure I connected the wires the correct way round.

Now there are only two wires (an orange and a white) but when I connected them up as original when the car was locked the tailgate was unlocked and when the car was unlocked the tailgate was locked.

When I joined the wires back to front it sorted the problem and things worked fine.

This is puzzling me and wondered if anybody could shed any light on why it would behave in such a strange manner.

Thanks for your help

Tony

My guess is the starter motor is on it's way out.

Were the doors locked when you connected it up...i.e. so it was open when the doors were locked...then when you unlocked the doors you locked the tailgate ? Just a wild wild guess.
