Fixed fiesta!!

Hiya, I'm looking to pick the group's brains again!! [snip sad story about broken temperature gauge] > Thanks everyone!

Ok after spending much of the day tracing around the electrics of the car, I think I've solved the problem! Not quite sure *what* the problem was, but wherever I've found an electrical contact, I've recrimped and reshielded it (high temperature cable shielding). Yes, it is probably the long route around the problem, but I've learned a lot about a fiesta's electrical layout!!

I'm happy to report that the car is now running absolutely fine, and the car is booked on the 24th November to have its tappets fixed. The garage reckon that this work will cost about £45.

Im also considering a new car, a Toyota RAV4 or a Ford Focus. Anyone got any comments on either of these models? Or recommendations on other cars: big/small car, diesel/petrol, decent response, decent handling, less than £7000 preferred (not a requirement). Preferably with decent security gear built in, but not a necessity.

Oh, and why dont cars have lights built in under the bonnet? It would help in case you ever break down at night.

Ok, I've opened a few new threads in this. I'll move this post to a new thread.

Once again, thanks everyone!

DAMN THEM TO ETERNAL HELL!

Ok maybe not that harsh. I think I will consider fitting one of these lights into my next car if it doesnt have one. It makes more sense than carrying a lamp with a long 13a extension!

Oh also if anyone has any good ideas, I'm looking for an efficient car too. One that doesnt eat the petrol/diesel or wheels.

Focus TDCi then. Pulls well, reliable, economical and like a larger Fiesta. Handles like a dream for its considered market

Focus TDCi should suit you then. Handles well, doesn't drink the fuel too quickly. And common as muck, which is good when you need to repair it!

The RAV won't be terribly fuel efficient unless you get the later model (at least according to Parkers) and I don't think tyres will be brilliantly cheap either.

Once again, thanks gang!

I think I'll save the pennies for a Focus TDCi. I'm heading off to the ford garage tomorrow to take one for a test drive. I've never owned a diesel before, and only had a 1.8petrol for two weeks. Other than that, I've always been 1.1l petrol - cheap on petrol, cheap on insurance, cheap on wheels (bicycle wheels), and theres no encouragement to drive really fast. In fact, they're not capable of going really fast (mine isnt anyway). :-)

I checked out the reviews on the RAV4 - didnt realise it was group10 insurance! 16" tyres x 4 doesnt sound all too appealing either.

Thanks everyone!!!

Would be interested to see some figures, but I would imagine that a Focus TDCi would probably match, if not beat a 1.1 litre petrol engine in terms of fuel consumption! Not taking into account that Diesel is more expensive.
