Ford Fiesta Automatic - Repair or Replace?

A couple of years ago I bought an L reg Fiesta Automatic. It was a typical "1 careful lady owner" and it had only done just over 35k. Now its up to 50k and the automatic transmission is getting a bit odd

- wants to rush away as soon as I put it in "Drive" when cold and wants to stay disengaged at the lights when hot. I only paid £1000 2 years ago and I've spent about £600 on services - new shock absorber, filters, wheel, brakes, replacement tyres, that kind of thing - so I don't think I'm doing too bad.

I've been quoted £1200 for a reconditioned gearbox. With such a relatively low mileage engine is it worth the investment to keep it going; do I spend £1200 or sell it now for what I can and look for a replacement. (Any recommendations for auto specialists in SE who could do it cheaper?) How often would I have to get the gearbox fixed in this way?

I'm not heavily into cars, and this is my first, so I seek your advice!

If it really is going to cost 1200 quid and you can live with a manual transmission, you can get a newer, lower mileage Fester for that sort of money. Quick scan of Autotrader gives an M-reg with 26000 miles at 1400 quid.

I'd agree, the Festa auto box is that awful CVT box that Ford use, I'm amazed it made 50k to be honest. £1200 is a pretty good price for a CVT exchange unit.
