1G MAF

Hi, can you explain the best way to clean the Eclipse 1G NT MAF? May it be so dirty to reduce air intake?

I'd just use compressed air to remove dust unless the MAF matrix is covered in oil (which should not happen), in which case use an aerosol eg brake cleaner.

It sounds like you have another problem, say, your air filter element is dirty. A clogged filter will reduce air intake. Replace the filter.

Yes, as you probably remember my car is LPG fueled, so it has a small window on the air intake which opens in case of backfire: well, after it opens and if the engine is warm enough, the performance increases. It sounds illogical with a regular air intake, since this extra air is out of MAF control. Now I use a foam permanent filter, but I think it's junk because it feels clogged just after 10000 miles: my wife's Palio has a K&N and it runs like new after twice this mileage. So I'm evaluating between a K&N or a Cosmo-racing in order to maximize air intake.

Fluid Dynamics 101 says that air flows through a system according to the smallest aperture. Put another way, it does not matter if this window is before or after the MAF, the MAF will register the flow as limited by that window.

well, the windows *opens* the air intake pipe between MAF and engine, so this extra air flow cannot be registered anyway: the MAF should register a reduced air intake due to air filter restriction while this window offers no resistance to the air.

today I cleaned the air filter. it's a Ramair

They tell that the servicing mileage is around 25000 but I think that it's not really true. In 4 years I made around 10000, as told, but I guess that it's enough to service it: cleaning liquid was as black as tar and I'll probably have to spend a can of cleaner each year in the future. Also K&N recommends yearly cleaning. Now the engine looks to run smoother but I'll check better in the next days under sunny and moisty summer afternoons.

Well, it occurred again. The car was running well, but sometimes I felt like a misfiring in 1 or 2 pistons when running under 2500 rpm's. And today at the traffic light, I started and then the usual bang of a backfire occurred when I was in 1st gear, around 2500 rpm. In spite of this, I started very fast and the car ran as well as before.

So I'm evaluating to check again the ignition coil, because the air intake is ok, the engine is quite enjoyable, but those "steps" in low gears are annoying.

I'm looking for spares but it's difficult to find a dealer available to ship from USA to EU.
