A little warning about declaring all modifications

Was stopped last week for overtaking a police car slightly too quickly :-( Grumpy policeman went all round the car and under the bonnet and took a note of all the modifications he could find. He told me that the police now inform your insurance company to check that you have declared all modifications. Sure enough I got a call from the insurance company today for a couple of minor things and had to pay a couple of quid more to cover them. So for anyone who hasn't declared modifications it's no longer a case of just hoping you don't have an accident and the inspector comes out, if you're stopped by the police your insurance company could find out about anything undeclared.

That's always been the case.

When I was stopped for testing the available rear end grip a few months back, the police officer asked if I had informed my insurance company of the modifications. That day I had bought the new road tax disc so had my insurance paperwork with me and could prove it too! :)

IMO that's a lot of s**te. They'd check at the roadside and f*ck you for no insurance if they weren't declared. That's like being stopped while not insured, driving home and calling up for a policy.

Oh well, it's the first time they've ever done it to me, not that I get stopped that often. Luckily I'd just taxed it earlier that day too.

Coincidence or what?!

Yeah me too, I kick myself now because the first policeman said, "do you know why we stopped you?" and I should have said one of the following: "how long have you been following me?" "you need a green car for snooker" or "you can lip read?" heh.

Not declaring modifications is never worth the potential aggravation.

The best reason to keep the modifications to those you can't see.

And not drive like a tit around plod.

(ahem)

Lol - how about "because an asian looking person in a nice car always gets stopped" (used that after a large number of consecutive stops in my Volvo)

Good job done by the police then. If you can't see a police car then you must need an eye test as it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to drive with deective/uncorrected sight. Exactly what were these modifications then? Silly light bulbs or go faster stickers, maybe some stick on bonnet vents! I wish all people driving without insurance could be prosecuted. Or even people driving with the wrong insurance. When the scumbags crash they often push up the price for the rest of us. The mentality of scumbags that are not correctly insured seems to be evident in the original message.

It also means you are not covered by an insurance policy and are one of the many scumbags driving about illegaly - pushing the price up for the rest of us.

I didn't say it wasn't.

There is such a thing as an unmarket police car.

Undeclared mods will not affect the 3rd party element of a claim.

Or playing tag with an unmarked Skoda...

They don't have the resources to check what modifications are declared at the roadside. They can check if the car has a policy (even that's not bang upto date).

Doesn't work in Harrow, unfortunately.

It's the insurance companies that can't be bothered prosecuting policy holders - It's not also effective because the system just does not always work.

'cos, if anything happened, the insurance co. will still pay out to 3rd parties, and are meant to recover costs from the policy holder.

Also, certain non-performance mods, e.g. optional FACTORY bodykits etc. will not be too much of an issue for the insurance co. in that they'll just repair to standard fit, rather than optional fit.

It's stupid though 'cos many people just don't realise to declare factory cosmetic options.

Yea but that's just silly, I mean, if I was to get say aircon added as an option, should I declare that?
