Dangling electrical cable

Hello group,

I was having a look under the front bumber on my 306 XRDT (96N) today and saw an electrical cable dangling down with the end contact not connected to anything. I wondered if anyone in the group could suggest what it is.

It has a blue connector, which is roughly square in cross section and has small purple inner connections. It is on the (UK) drivers side and dangles out next to the windscreen wash reservior. It isn't for the front lights or the left front indicator. It doesn't feel like it will stretch to the fan, and anyway I can see that there is already a connector to that.

I have just tucked it away under the bumper for now, and it doesn't seem to be providing power to a primary component, as I have driven home tonight without any hassle. However I am a bit wary of driving for too long not knowing what it is for so please help!!!

I can try to provide more info if necessary.

Regards, Gary Pearson.

My XRDT doesn't have front fog lamps. The connector is light blue though, so maybe it is there for a fog lamp upgrade? I also thought that it could be a diagnostics connector. Perhaps I ought to buy the Haynes manual to find out properly... unless anyone here can confirm its purpose!

Can you trace it back to its other end? It does sound like the fog-light lead - not sure how they are connected on a 306 but it may run back to the wiring for the headlights. Depends how the fog lights work on the 306 - on my 205, the fogs come on when full-beam is on, so the wire goes back to the lead for full beam on the headlight.

Not an upgrade. Peugeot does not make a seperate wiring loom for each individual car, all with different options fitted. They'll use at most a handful of standard looms which will cover a range of models. When an option is not fitted on a particular car, the connector is cut off or left to dangle. Your fog lamp connector was probably originally tied back put of sight.

Diagnostics connectors are not hidden beneath the bumper, where they will pick up dirt and be awkward to access.

The 205 was fitted with driving lights, not foglamps, that's why they're wired directly into the main headlamp circuit. The 306 has foglamps.

Hi

The Connector is for the front fog lamps. You'll find another connector on the other side too for the other lamp. The wiring is all in place but the switch, relay and lamps (obviously) are omitted.

Thanks to everyone for their advice... it has put my mind at rest. I have just tucked the cable away next to the windscreen wash reservior and will forget about it.
