1990 SAAB 9000 won't start - code search

Hello,

I've looked all over the internet and am having a hard time finding a resource on how to read the codes given off by the check ingine light. We were told that if we jumpered 2 ports together the check engine light would flash in readable patterns that we could reference to a list (which I can't find).

I'm off in limbo land w/o a car to drive. This car was just purchased and I'm afraid that might become a money pit. Any $ we can save by doing our own work is greatly appreciated.

Also, can you all suggest any good repair manuals? My local shop didn't have anything.

Thanks in advance, Rebecca

I think this is what you're looking for:

Absolutely. Always do the groundwork yourself, so you at least when the mechanic asks you "so, huh, what's wrong with it?", you don't just say "duh? I dunno. Will it be expensive?" :)

Haynes/Bentley, usually. They make good reading, even if you don't intend to do any of the serious stuff yourself (see above).

Good luck with it,

Paul

Thanks for the info. His lame mechanic is saying he needs a new fuel pump @ $469.00 + $30 towing + $60 diagnostic + 2 - 3 hours labor. SHEESH! You'd think he'd comp something since he's the one who "inspected" it for sale.

Well, I'm off to search for fuel pump advice...

Thanks again, Rebecca

Rebecca, before you spend all that cash try replacing relay no A in the power distribution box at the back of the engine bay . The one with two relays and three fuses. That was the simple root cause of my starting problems and not the fuel pump or DI Cassette . Best of luck.
