1993 9000 CSE Problems

Hello,

I purchased my first Saab last month and it has been running good except for some issues that I would like some information on.

First, it leaks oil and i can't really pinpoint where it is coming from. The previous owner did say "it burns some oil"

Second and the biggest pain is that I have no air circulation at all. No heat no ACC nada. About once a week it will blow some cold air at medium speed and stop and never come back again. I have tried recalibrating the acc system only to report back 2 faults.

Third,E-Brake does not hold.

Fourth, Heated seats do not work on driver side, but on passenger side it is fine.

Fifth is that it reads ERR when I try to see the temperature in the display. Also it seems very hard to read unless it is pitch black out.(Tried dimmer adjusting)

Most likely you will need to replace theACC, a minor job; it just plugs in. Used ones are readilly availablefrom places that specialize in recycled Saab parts.

I have a 1992 9000. You (and I) should have bought a 1996 or later. But I couldn't find one.

I now have a 2001 9-5 and may want to sell the 9000.

Keeping in mind that the body style changed from 92 to 93, there are two o-rings that are simple to replace and will probably stop your oil leaks. Both are on the front side of the oil pan. One is behind the oil filter mount (a big nut, I forget the size - 22 mm?) and the other is behind the oil level sensor - 3 bolts.

Need more info to diagnose that one. A SAAB shop should be able to tell you what the faults are.

There is a special way to adjust the E-brake. Look at the Townsend web site or the Haynes manual actually gives a good description. You might replace the rear brakes and/or rotors if needed while you are at it.

May also have to adjust the cables inside the console as well as the allen screws at the calipers. I had to replace one of the calipers.

Probably wires are broken from someone kneeling on the seat.

OK, you already said that you have two faults. One is probably the outside temp sensor. It either is broken or missing.

Second, there are several (3 I think) little tiny light bulbs that light up the EDU. You need to remove the top of the dash, take out some screws and the instruments come out. Then there are three bulbs that cost new around $8 and used around $2 but maybe you can sort of match some bulbs only (w/o the bayonett) and replace them like I did. Then the display lights up again.
