4runner getting hot

Ok guys.I wrote a little while back about my ?92 4runner getting hot when I pulled a trailer with the a/c on.Well,I checked the cylynder compression, and it?s within limits according to the book I have. The a/c condensor fan runs kind of slow,I guess I?ll check that later.Last week I pulled the same size trailer with a very heavy motorcycle on it,without the a/c running, and it did not get hot.I suppose the next course of action is to flush the cooling system and change the thermostat, and check the a/c condensor fan. Comments?Advice? Anything helpful is appreciated.

Flushing may help but a auapect that the radiator core may be getting blocked to restricting your cooling. As you have probley figured out, when you use A/C it increases the heat load on your radiator, but not from running the compressor as much as the extra heat that the condesor dumps in the air heating it before it gets to the radiator core. You might also check to make sure that the condensor and radiators cores are not plugs with dirt or bugs restricting airflow through them.

If you were overheating on a highway trip it is likely the problem is related to air wind resistance added by the trailer rather than the weight of the trailer. You should check your owner's guide and see if it lists a maximum frontal area for a trailer. If it is a air resistance issue, you can solve it by driving slower.

If the car has a correct cooling design system it should run out of power before it runs out of cooling at highway speeds.

Ok,well, the trailer was a low, open one,and I wasn?t going fast anyway,so the wind resistance is not an issue.Plus,it will get hot with the a/c on even when I don?t pull a trailer or haul anything.I could clean out the radiator and condenser cores. That would help with airflow.Anything else? Also there is the power issue.Or rather lack thereof.I was told when I bought it that the engine had been overhauled, and I think that might be where some of it is coming from.I don?t know, how much power should a 3.0L engine have? Also,it kind of jerks when it shifts from one gear to the next until it warms up,I suppose. Thanks guys. Anything you can tell me is appreciated.

When you clean cores externally, check to see if radiator core is plugged internally because given the age of the vehical, this is a good possibilty too. A "Flush" will not fix it if it is.
