Now, wouldn't it be nice for the Dems to actually block something worth blocking. Here's a golden opportunity for them to exercise their majority in both houses and put a stop to this bullsh*t.

I'm rooting for them, but not holding my breath.

It's just another in a series of mistakes causes by our defense industry's ability to purchase polticians: CRAWFORD, Tex., March 25 2005 -- President Bush rewarded a key ally in the war on terrorism Friday by authorizing the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, a move that reversed 15 years of policy begun under his father and that India warned would destabilize the volatile region.

The United States barred the sale of F-16s to Pakistan in 1990 out of concern over its then-undeclared nuclear weapons program, but Bush has forged a close relationship with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf since Sept. 11, 2001, and considers his help crucial in the battle against Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist organization. Pakistan initially wants to buy about two dozen aircraft, but Bush administration officials said there would be no limits on how many it could eventually purchase.

A smarter president has some thoughts about this:

I could only find three stories on web sites: Fox and MSNBC, and Newsmax. All claimed that Israel, also part of the entire aid package, had no objections. What are they going to say? "We don't want Wahhabi extremists in possession of sat-guided bombs." ?

This should fire up the Dems if they really care. Or, possibly, they don't. Many have defense contractors in their districts too. Imagine all the pissed-off union members at any of them should a contract be blocked.

Maybe the Israelis don't care because they feel they're better trained to operate the weapons they have. I mean, you can put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig. Or, sell F-16s to to the Pakistanis... Just a theory. On the other hand, the Saudis have been sending their pilots to us for training for many years.

And a good one. I suspect it's more true than not.

True, but when push comes to shove, the Israelis are the best fighter pilots in the world. They put more air time in than ours do, and have multiple triple-aces:

Shalmon, Abraham - 18, Marom, Oded - 18, Giora Epstein - 17, Spector, Yiftah - 15, Snir, Asher - 15.

The only dogfights where the Arabs, Syrians, or Jordanians engaged Iraeli pilots directly had them only trying it with superior numbers. In each fight, after the IDF pilots whittled down their numbers, the remaining high-tailed it for home.

They're cowards in the air, as well.
