Prius Questions

So with the prices and the pump the way they are I was considering buying a Prius. I looked at used ones and can get a 2004 with less than 20K mileage for $20,500 (pre T, T & L).

First of all-- what?s TT&L? Second is that a good deal? Third-- the car is gray with a tan interior-- I didn? know it even came in gray.....

Please advise. Thanks for your help.

Title (transfer) fee, Taxes and License (plates). That should only cover fees paid to the state government - if they try adding their own "administrative costs for preparing the paperwork" it's a ripoff attempt. Every decent dealer I've seen has a way to print the forms from their computer, where it automatically fills in all the boxes.

That you'll have to decide. What are they going for new in the area with 0 miles on them, and what percentage off is $20,500 from that? If you are paying 20% to 40% off the full retail price (mostly to allow for the devaluing of being "Used" and the accumulated miles), it would be reasonable - if not, pay a bit more and get a new car, and get the lower (usually much lower) new-car loan rates.

And check for signs of any collision damage - if it has a minor dent that was fixed properly it shouldn't affect the price. But if it the car was in a serious accident and/or the repairs were done badly...

Gray isn't that bad now - 10 to 15 years ago they couldn't make a low-emissions water based car paint in gray that stuck to the car and lasted worth a darn, but they seem to have that dialed in now. It shouldn't have big fading problems like Red cars, or 'show every swirl and tiny scratch' like Black.

Gray? You mean silver, right???

If it's a good price or not, it depends on what the "new price" was. Which package is it? If it's package 6 the price is awesome!

The prices on a used Prius are pretty high. This car hasn't devaluated much. As a matter of fact a few months ago a dealer offered a friend of mine to buy his 1-year-old car for the same amount he had paid when he bought it new.

Also, keep in mind that you do get a tax break if you buy this car new. Keep that in mind when you consider a used one over a new one.

Hope this helps.
